To show the locations of water recreation sites (diving, swimming, and picnic spots) on Chuuk.
This dataset shows the location of popular water recreation sites on Chuuk, including dive sites, popular snorkeling, swimming spot, and picnic spots. It wascreated by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2020) by digitizing several tourist and historic maps depicting the sites of WWII wrecks in Chuuk Lagoon and cross-referencing them with exact location data reported by Jeffery (2007), war graves, munition dumps and pleasure grounds: A post- colonial perspective of Chuuk Lagoon’s submerged World War II sites; as well as Jeffery (2012), The future of Chuuk Lagoon's submerged WW II sites. All dive sites shown here are sunken ships, planes, and related war remains.
The popular swimming spots and small-island beach and picnic sites are based on information provided as KML files by Nely Mori Ruben (Chuuk Visitor's Bureau). Note that only the best known locations are included on this map. Many others are not shown.
