To show the locations of key historic, underwater sites in Chuuk Lagoon.
This dataset shows the locations of sunken ships, planes, and war debris in Chuuk Lagoon. It was created by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2020) from location data reported by Jeffery (2007), War graves, munition dumps and pleasure grounds: A post-colonial perspective of Chuuk Lagoon’s submerged World War II sites; as well as Jeffery (2012), The future of Chuuk Lagoon's submerged WW II sites. All dive sites shown here are sunken ships, planes, and related war remains. The layer includes all known ships sunken inside Chuuk Lagoon. It excludes locations of ships that were damaged but did not sink, ships that were sunk but later refloated, and ships that sunk outside Chuuk Lagoon.A few additional features were added based on Franko Maps.
