Type Raster Dataset
To show the bathymetry (depth to seafloor) around Kosrae.
This dataset shows the bathymetry (depth to seafloor) around Kosrae. It was generated by AutoGrid(2019), a web application that creates grids and map images from multibeam bathymetry data. AutoGrid is a program by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI, formerly NGDC).Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2019) extracted a subset of the original dataset and formatted it for use in this atlas.

There are three major steps in the AutoGrid application - build grid, create map images, and generate ASCII output files. AutoGrid uses MB-System and the Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) to perform these actions. The generated grid is a COARDS-compliant GMT netCDF format containing integer data. AutoGrid builds the grid in Geographic coordinates using the WGS84 horizontal datum and utilizes a Gaussian Weighted Mean as the gridding algorithm.
1. Projected ASCII to WGS84 UTM Zone 58N and saved as TIFF file; 2. Added metadata.
ASCII data downloaded from AutoGrid website using grid size of 1000 meters.
