This dataset was derived by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2023) by visually identifying the features on satellite imagery accessed through the ImageServer Service (2023) provided by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

This dataset was derived by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2023) by visually identifying the features on satellite imagery accessed though the ImageServer Service (2023) provided by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Note that the conditions of the airfields may vary and could be overgrown.

Locations of houses and other buildings

This map shows the footprints of all houses, buildings, and other human-made structures in the Neighboring Islands of Yap. The dataset was developed by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi) (2015) through manually digitizing 2013-14 WorldView-2 satellite imagery from MAXAR, formerly Digital Globe, provided by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The features were classified into the following basic categories: churches, community houses, dispensaries, gravesites, pier, schools, water storage, and others It was created as part of the “Geospatial Information Development and Application to Support Effective Decision Making in the Federated States of Micronesia” project funded through the NOAA Sea Grant Coastal Storms Program (2014).
